I found Mr Petrarca to be thoughtful, welcoming and approachable.
On my initial consultation he was very thorough in his examination, explained clearly the need for cataract surgery and what it would entail.
I was very nervous the first time I had surgery, I found Mr Petrarca and the team to be reassuring and efficient.
During the surgery he explained the procedure in a helpful way, needless to say I was much more relaxed when going for the second one.
Following up appointments were both carried out by Mr Petrarca who gave me a comprehensive exam.
Overall my experience was very good from consultation to discharge . I was given all the necessary information and treated with respect , the cataract surgery was skilfully done and my eyes healed well.
The difference in my vision is amazing, I now do not need glasses for driving and my reading prescription has reduced.
I highly recommend Mr Petrarca

Mr Petrarca is exceedingly patient, very efficient and professional, talking through the procedure before and during the operations. Both eyes (cataracts) were treated successfully. I would highly recommend Mr Petrarca.

Mr Petrarca was exceedingly patient, understanding and informative at all time. My cataract condition was resolved most satisfactorily and efficiently, with little or no discomfort.
I would highly recommend this treatment, specialist and hospital.

Mr Petrarca was at all times courteous, caring and created a positive empathy with me the patient.
He explained in detail the procedure he was carrying out, and his pre-care and post care was equally efficient.
He made it clear to me what improvements should be achieved as a result of the procedure.
I have no hesitation what so ever in recommending Mr Petrarca.

From start to finish Mr Petrarca has been excellent in every way. My wife was referred to Mr Petrarca after suffering pressure problems in her eyes that could have caused a glaucoma attack. He saw her the day after calling and carried out laser treatment immediately to release the pressure. He then recommended cataract treatment in both eyes as the long term solution. My wife has always been very nervous regarding her eyes but Mr Petrarca was patient and explained exactly what was happening and going to happen in a very clear and reassuring way. Both cataract operations have now been carried out successfully and as well as solving the pressure problem have given my wife nearly 2020 vision for the first time in her life and she is able to read and drive without glasses (although she is likely to need them for extended reading and night driving. At every stage Mr Petrarca has shown empathy and great care including phoning up on the evenings of the operations to check that my wife was fine and didn't have any questions or concerns. His secretary then phoned up the day afterwards to check again.
I can thoroughly recommend Mr Petrarca without a single doubt.

Mr Robert Petrarca MD (Res) FRCOphth MBBS MCOptom BSc (Hons) is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon with a NHS post at Epsom and St.Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. He specialises in cataract and glaucoma surgery.
Mr Petrarca attended Guy’s, King’s and St. Thomas’ Medical School, London where he graduated with the national Royal College of Ophthalmologists Duke Elder ophthalmology prize, along with two distinctions and six merit awards. In addition, he was awarded a funded scholarship for a clinical elective at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA.
His subsequent ophthalmology training was within the London deanery and included King’s College Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS trusts and became a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. During this time he also completed his MD (Res) research degree at King’s College London into new treatments in ophthalmology.
Prior to his medical training, Mr Petrarca graduated from City University, London with his science degree in optometry and vision science. He worked in primary eye healthcare as an optometrist and became a member of the College of Optometrists.
Mr Petrarca has an active interest in new treatments in ophthalmology and has worked with various biotech and pharmaceutical companies during his research. He has published multiple peer reviewed papers in high ranking international ophthalmology journals, text book chapters and completed several clinical research trials. He has presented at national and international conferences and is regularly invited to give lectures across the UK to various healthcare professionals.
Mr Petrarca supervises and trains various healthcare professionals within a multidisciplinary team including doctors, nurses and optometrists. He is also an advocate of minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGs) to reduce sight loss and the burden of glaucoma treatments.
